Job Summary

You will be part of a high-impact team, responsible for developing ONE’s Battery Management System (BMS), to meet product and customer needs for functionality, performance, safety, security, and regulatory compliance. The BMS Systems Engineer is a critical role to define what the BMS control system should achieve, to establish requirements and systems-level architecture and design, and guide embedded controls software implementation, following best practices in systems engineering methodology.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop comprehensive requirements, system-level specifications, architectural concepts and approaches, perform analyses for functionality, robustness, failure modes, and other relevant aspects of system definition, to meet company product objectives and customer application expectations

  • Apply formal systems engineering practices in developing analysis, requirements, and specifications, leveraging Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methodology

  • Develop and apply subject matter expertise in high-voltage battery control systems

  • Engage with ONE customers to understand, analyze, document, and process application and system expectations and translate to product requirements

  • Together with other stakeholders, develop control system functional architectures for a platform approach

  • Review implementation outcomes to ensure requirements and specification satisfaction

  • Create and maintain applicable system/subsystem/component system and software specifications in a requirements management environment that is part of an overall Engineering Lifecycle Management software system. Work closely with other stakeholders to ensure full and visible traceability of requirements and specification to all elements of implementation and test

  • Lead/participate in Functional Safety analyses and reviews to develop appropriate requirements, design, and implementation to ensure compliance to expectations

  • Root cause system-related issues during testing and validation.

  • Support and/or lead activities for customer outreach and education in these technologies and their respective use cases

  • Support validation efforts

  • As part of development activities, root-cause and solve issues that arise, and help drive continuous refinement

  • This position will work as part of an agile engineering team, applying agile development methods and practices in a “DevOps” culture oriented to continuous delivery of value, continuous improvement, and speed of delivery

Education and/or Experience

  • Minimum, a B.S. degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or Computer Science

  • In-depth experience in systems engineering of automotive or similar-industry electronic controls. This experience should include analysis of requirements, determining systems architectures, deriving specification and design, diagnostics, and testing

  • Experience in comprehending and developing software and hardware requirements, and the interfaces used

  • Domain experience in vehicle electrification, with preference in high-voltage battery control systems and the application in vehicular environments

  • In-depth experience in structured/formal systems engineering methodology, preferably leveraging Model-Based-Systems-Engineering (MBSE) in SysML/UML

  • Experience with requirement management tools such as DOORS/DNG, Jama

  • Preferred, experience with functional safety, in systems analysis and requirements/specification development for embedded controls that are compliant to ISO26262

  • Familiarity with embedded controls and software development processes, methods, tools, and technology, preferably at the OEM or Tier1 level

  • Experience with automotive or Troubleshooting vehicle system functional and diagnostic issues, helping to determine and validate corrective actions and preventive measures

  • Hands-on experience in Model-Based-Development (MBD) using Matlab, and Simulink/Stateflow

  • Application of systems engineering techniques in series applications

  • Preferred, domain experience in high-voltage battery systems

  • Comfortable with a fast pace of change, ability to learn and adapt

  • Practiced ability to develop from a system perspective

  • Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team

  • Strong communication ability – interpersonal, written, presentation, of technical concepts and approaches

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.

  • Strong technical leadership skills and able to work in a highly collaborative environment.

  • Creative, disciplined, strong sense of responsibility, delivery, and schedule commitment.
