Job Summary

The Advanced Product Development team creates transformative battery designs and novel product concepts to speed global electric vehicle adoption and energy decarbonization.

Your role will be an Electrical Engineer on our team with a focus on high-voltage power electronics and electrical components, including DCDC converters.

You will research and investigate opportunities for innovation, including material and component improvements, seeking to eliminate losses and push the limit of feasible technologies. You will take new ideas from concept to on-vehicle integration, enabling high-performance EV packs for internal and customer-driven development programs. The ideal candidate will have deep electrical and electronic design experience both from the circuit level up to the systems level and be familiar with a wide variety of high-voltage disciplines including energy storage, conversion, low-noise design, and electromechanical considerations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Deeply investigates power electronics systems for fundamental and step-change improvement opportunities

  • Assesses novel technology for application including control strategies, exotic materials, and high-efficiency design concepts

  • Leads advanced design and develop architectures for functions such as power conversion, thermal management, bus bars, and high-voltage modules

  • Builds technical subject matter expertise in power electronics topics, actively participate in and contribute to technical reviews

  • Conducts trade studies to make the appropriate choice of hardware to support prototyping goals

  • Develops schematics, perform PCB layout, and work with external suppliers for fabrication

  • Identifies areas of risk and work quickly to prototype and mitigate these

  • Brings up new hardware designs and verification of first article hardware prototypes

Within 3 months:

  • Supports the design and build of a prototype next-generation battery pack

  • Helps develop test setups to iterate on and validate designs

  • Be responsible for integration of a key power electronics subsystem

  • Develops internal design tools and capabilities to accelerate future projects

  • Becomes familiar with the ONE team and established products

Within 6 months:

  • Develops prototype designs with exceptional performance and custom application requirements

  • Takes ownership of next-generation power electronics R & D

  • Collaborates with other system disciplines to plan and execute overall project delivery

  • Guides high-level design discussions for our current and future product concepts

  • Mentors junior engineers on prototyping and best practices

  • Leads prototyping and fabrication of follow-on product concepts


  • BS, MS, or PhD in a relevant field (Electrical/Computer Engineering, Mechatronics, Electronics, etc.)

  • 3+ years experience in electronics research, electrical systems design, or a related field

  • Experience in high-voltage (400V+) electrical design, and power electronics, and thermal management

  • Experience with power conversion control and embedded development processes, methods, and tools

  • General electronics skills (benchtop testing/debugging with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and other test equipment, soldering, PCB design)

  • Experience in board design, layout, fab, and bring-up

  • Experience with common serial/bus communication protocols (Ex: I2C, SPI, UARTs, CAN)

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and must be able to design and conduct complex experiments.

  • Experience working in an R&D prototype development environment

  • Strong written/verbal communication and organizational skills
